Deep Dive Course:
Creative Coding Essentials
with Tim Rodenbröker
Dive into Creative Coding in this 6-week live program. Build a solid foundation, code your own visual tools, and kickstart your journey with Processing.

«Designers hit walls when their tools can’t keep up with their ideas. I help my students to climb up these walls and discover the unexplored worlds behind.»
Tim Rodenbröker
If systems are the rules beneath the surface, coding is the tool that enables you to design any system you can imagine, independent of existing software.
In this six-week live online course, you will dive into the territory of Creative Coding. Tim Rodenbröker guides you through the foundations of creative coding with Processing, from sketches, loops, conditionals, and functions to geometric composition, generative motion, typography, and 3D. You’ll also learn to code small tools for your own visual systems and structure a digital sketchbook to archive your generative ideas.
No coding skills required, just bring your curiosity.
6 weeks – 6 live sessions

Session 1: Introduction
What is Creative Coding? Where to start? Processing history and ecosystem. Set up your environment and create your first sketch.

Session 2: Loops
Learn to use loops to run code multiple times, distribute elements, and create visual complexity.

Session 3: Waves
Sketching with code: Waves and wave figures. Export a dynamic wave animation.

Session 4: Grids
Explore nested loops to distribute elements two-dimensionally. The foundation for grids, rasterization, and more.

Session 5: Typemachines
Using fonts and typography in Processing. Design a typographic composition with code.

Session 6: The Third Dimension
3D in Processing: shapes, light, and colors. Build a 3D prototype for your next project.

«I think the power of Creative Coding is that is that it steers our attention to the process and unveils the enormous potential of system-based creativity and self-imposed constraints.»
Tim Rodebröker
Who will be your teacher?

Tim Rodenbröker is a Creative Technologist, living and working in Barcelona. Since more than a decade, he explores, practices and teaches Creative Coding. He is the founder of trcc, an online learning platform and cultural hub for Creative Coding. Together with Martin Lorenz, he runs a design studio called Coding Systems. Tim has taught at a wide range of international design institutions, including Elisava in Barcelona, the Glasgow School of Art, HEAD Genève and ECAL. He has also worked across disciplines for clients such as The New York Times, IBM, University of Pennsylvania, the Julia Stoschek Foundation, Holo Magazine and Slate + Ash.
The word “downgrade” is his north star.
Is this a course for you?
For whom is the course:
This six-week program is specifically tailored for practitioners from the graphic design field who want to:
- Bridge the gap between traditional design and digital programming.
- Build a solid foundation in creative coding, without prior experience.
- Kickstart their learning journey using Processing as a designer-friendly tool.
What is required:
Curiosity and a Computer. Processing can be downloaded for free.
What will you learn:
You’ll master the essential building blocks of creative coding, starting with the core architecture of a sketch, variables, loops, conditional statements, and functions. Throughout the six weeks, you’ll explore:
- Geometric composition, generative motion, typography, and 3D.
- How to code small tools for your own visual systems.
- How to structure a digital sketchbook to archive generative ideas.
No coding experience required. Just bring your curiosity.
